Day 5
In Google Classroom is chapter 2 of our textbook, which is also in the cabinets! Yay we have physical textbooks! They are to stay in my room, and you cannot write in them. Please treat them nicely, because they are thin paper and I made them myself so they have to last a long time.
Your job is to start a new set of notes on the first part of Chapter 2. (as explained in Google Classroom). Also in Classroom is a list that explain what you should be looking for (what I will grade your notes on).
Due on MONDAY at the start of class, but you had a little time IN class to work on them.
Chapter two is all about laws and ethics.
Journalism ethics are your guidelines on how to act and report on information.
Basic journalism ethics:
Our policy is what we as RMHS students use to guide our writing and reporting. I posted our policy guide in Google Classroom; on a notecard, jot down anything you notice that you have concerns with or don’t agree with, or parts that you DO like and agree with.
Notecard is due as an exit ticket.

- Ethics are about what we should do.
Journalism ethics are your guidelines on how to act and report on information.
Basic journalism ethics:
- Do not write something that you cannot support with evidence. Provide as much factual detail as possible.
- Assume there is at least one other side or version to every story.
- Always get permission to publish someone’s statement before putting it into writing.
- Don’t plagiarize! Give credit to your sources (name or cite them).
- Always tell the truth as confidently and as detailed as possible. Be able to back up your story and defend your sources.
