Today we started the film, AS I TOLD YOU last week and on Google Classroom.
You will not just be sitting watching a movie!!!
You need to take notes that way you will be prepared for the essay you will write after the film. Essay prompt: in academic paragraphs, discuss if you believe that Maximus fits the definition of a tragic hero or not. Make sure to use evidence from your tragic hero notes as well as information from learned in the film itself. In other words, you cannot ONLY use the movie for evidence. You must use the information from our notes.
Remember Aristotle's Five Criteria for a Tragic Hero:
Those who aren't able to watch the film (for whatever reason), you need to pick a short story to read, then apply the prompt for you in Google Classroom to the story.

- Why? Because as I stated before, this film is meant to be the evidence for an essay you will write.
- No sleeping, playing on your phone, etc.

- Hamartia – a tragic flaw that causes the downfall of a hero.
- Hubris – excessive pride.
- Peripeteia – The reversal of fate that the hero experiences.
- Anagnorisis – a moment in time when hero makes an important discovery in the story.
- Nemesis – a punishment that the protagonist cannot avoid, usually occurring as a result of his hubris.
- Catharsis – feelings of pity and fear felt by the audience, for the inevitable downfall of the protagonist.
