After reading the poem, please answer the following questions in ACE format. That means I should see you quote parts of the poem and explain them.

- What is the setting of “The Raven”? Include month and weather.
- What fills the narrator’s heart with terror in stanza 3?
- What is he hoping the Raven can tell him?
- As the poem progresses, the narrator becomes more and more furious with the raven. Why does he become so angry?
- 5.Is there any indication that the narrator may have dreamt the entire episode? Explain.
- Edgar Allan Poe is famous for using symbolism in his stories and poetry. What could the raven be a symbol of or for in this poem?
- Throughout the poem, many words are repeated (ex: chamber, sorrow, Nevermore, Lenore). Why does Poe do this, what type of effect should it have on the reader?
- Poe is also famous for using allusions in his writing. List a couple examples from “The Raven” where allusion was used.
For each example, write down the type of allusion it is (literary, mythological, Biblical, etc.). - List three verbs that show what the poem’s narrator is doing in the first stanza.
- Where does the raven perch, and what might that signify?
- The speaker asks the Raven FOUR different questions, and also makes a request. What are they?
