Day 1 of 4
Started a new vocab packet; chapter 4, first two sections (one page front and back).
Many of you couldn't find the Edgar Allan Poe notes; they were posted in Google Classroom, but they are also available by clicking HERE. I will collect them TOMORROW as an entrance ticket.
Today we read a couple of poems by Edgar Allan Poe, including "Alone" and "Annabel Lee."
“Annabel Lee” is a poem that uses two meters – anapest and spondee.
The literary devices that Poe made use of most are imagery and personification. Poe has also used repetition, alliteration and consonance.
Alone is a lyric poem of twenty-two lines.
Literary devices include:
Metaphor: the spring, the demon in his view (line 22),
Rhyme: " My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone."
Parallelism:
"As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring."
"From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,"
Personification:
"From the lightning in the sky/ As it passed me flying by..."
"And the cloud that took the form...Of a demon in my view."
You had five questions to answer about Annabel Lee:
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to ask me directly for that work and do it on your own time.
